Nap Nanny products recalled by CPSC

First generation Nap Nanny products are recalled by Baby Matters and also the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The product was getting used incorrectly during the one death that has been attributed to the product. For those who have a first generation Nap Nanny, the business is offering $ 80 off the purchase of a new product.

The Baby Matters Nap Nanny

The Baby Matters Nap Nanny is a foam product intended to help restless and fussy babies sleep. Intended to re-create the position of a car seat, the Nap Nanny has a three-point harness. The harness is what is at issue in this recall — when used incorrectly, the harness does not hold the baby in place. D-rings don’t hold the Velcro harness in place in first generation products. Only the first generation products are included within the recall.

What to do for those who have the Nap Nanny

Which product you have requires your reaction to the Nap Nanny recall. If you purchased your Nap Nanny between January 2009 and July 2010, you most likely have a first-generation product. Call Baby Matters at 888-240-4282 to get a coupon that will give you $ 80 off a new Nap Nanny. Before you use a Nap Nanny that does have D-rings, you need to watch the video on the Baby Matters website.

Questions about the effectiveness of the CPSC

A long line of baby product recalls this year includes this Nap Nanny. The CPSC has recalled a huge variety of products within the last year, including pacifiers and drop-side cribs. In 2008, Congress passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which asked for standards to be set for baby gear. Thus far, baby walkers and bath seats have been subjected to standards. There are plans for standards for everything else, including cribs. The CPSC has not much staff or funding, but lots of responsibility.
