Vick a beginning QB once again

There has been lots of debate and rumor concerning the Eagles and Michael Vick. The great debate is if the Eagles Michael Vick starting status is only temporary. However, debate is all academic at this point. Michael Vick is the starter. Of course, he had already taken over that spot for one game. Kolb had been injured, and Vick had to step in. The question became whether or not Vick was still a quality quarterback. The proof was in the pudding. Vick nearly beat the Green Bay Packers in one half and bested the Detroit Lions in the driver’s seat. Vick was recently named the beginning quarterback by Eagles private coach, Andy Reid.

Eagles over the lions

After Kevin Kolb received a concussion in the opening game against the Green Bay Packers, the job of leading the Eagles offense passed to Vick. Vick took over and put on an inspired performance that nearly culminated in a victory. He was left in the driver's seat for the Sept. 19 game against the Detroit Lions. He had a barnstormer of a game, according to Sports Illustrated. He passed for 284 yards, and two touchdowns. Vick also recorded over 30 yards rushing, as he still can scramble like crazy. The Lions fought to win the game late, but the end result was a 35 to 32 victory for the Eagles.

Seeing Reid

At that point, Eagles coach still insisted Kolb was the starter. Reid had said Kolb was back in as soon as he was cleared medically. However, he changed his mind not long after Vick won the game in Detroit. Vick is known for being mercurial towards pass rushes, and also the Eagles have been having some difficulties with the offensive line. The decision may have more to do with Vick than Kolb. Both Reid and Vick insist that Kolb is an exceptional quarterback, and he has certainly shown promise. However, the future of Kolb in Philly is academic. Vick could be the starter against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Redemption song

Michael Vick was convicted on dog fighting charges and did 18 months in prison. He was hired by the Eagles as a backup and saw limited game time until this year. Though he has never been in contrast to Joe Montana or Brett Favre, Vick can move around the backfield and find opportunities not numerous other could, like 49ers Hall of Fame QB Steve Young.
