Abbey Road a cultural landmark formally

The famous photograph of The Beatles walking across an Abbey Road crosswalk has led to that crosswalk being named a historic and national landmark. The crosswalk is the part of the road the Beatles are walking across on the cover of “Abbey Road,” the group’s last album. It’s the first crosswalk to be deemed culturally worthy of preservation in England.

Abbey Road crosswalk gets to be a landmark

A new historical landmark was declared by the British government. The crosswalk on the picture of the cover of “Abbey Road” by the Beatles was, reports CNN, the landmark. It may be a fantastic idea to make this crosswalk the first crosswalk that is a historic landmark, when it is referred to as “zebra crossings” in the United Kingdom. The album that the picture of all four Beatles crossing the street is on is quite significant. It is also fairly ironic. Even though “Let It Be” was released after the “Abbey Road” album, the album was the last the Beatles released.

Formerly a dull street crossing

The image made the street corner with the crosswalk become fairly famous. Before that, the crosswalk was within the London borough of Westminster on the actual Abbey Road. About 90 % of the Beatles recordings happened in Abbey Road Studios which the zebra crossing is right outside of. The group decided to track the last recording there as it was a substantial place, hence the title. The studio is a landmark too. BBC reports it was named one as well. EMI still owns the studio which is famous for recording each “Star Wars” film score as well as “Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd.

The year was a strong one

This year was the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death meaning there were numerous tributes to him when the Beatles music was finally all put on iTunes. Sir Paul McCartney said that the crossing being named a historic site was the “icing on the cake” of a fantastic year for himself and the Beatles.
