OR man modifies title to Captain Awesome

Captain Awesome would once go by the wholly uninspiring title Douglas Allen Smith, Jr. The former Douglas Smith, a 27 year old guy from Eugene, Ore., wanted a modification of pace. He thus transformed his title to Captain Awesome. Captain Awesome must have taken out a loan to cover the legal name modification.

Captain Awesome what Douglas Allen Smith changed his name too

Unemployed cabinet maker Douglas Allen Smith Jr., 27, of Eugene, Ore., decided he needed for making a change. He altered his title to Captain Awesome to honor a character on “Chuck,” his preferred Television show, according to the Eugene Register Guard. "A bad nickname builds character" which was why Devon Woodcomb, or Ryan McPartlin in real life, was given the nickname Captain Awesome. This is why Smith wanted his name to be changed. The title change required him to face a judge though. The judge didn't really understand at all.

Captain Awesome wins in the courtroom

Smith researched title modification cases at the University of Oregon law library and successfully represented himself in the courtroom. The judge granted the title modification, and he allowed him to modification his signature to left and right arrows, which point inward toward a smiley face. He had his new signature accepted by the OR Department of Motor Vehicles. It can be printed on the back of his driver's license too. His bank was the only one who wouldn't accept his signature. This is because it would be too easy to forget the glyph.

What is in a title?

Despite the ease with which many people can modification their legal names, some odd names go just a bit too far. There was a custody dispute between parents in New Zealand of a 9 year old girl years back and the judge made the decision that as the daughter was named Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii she would become a ward of the court. A change of title was required as the judge did not like the idea. Other titles, based on CBC News, blocked in New Zealand included Yeah Detroit, Sex Fruit and Keenan Got Lucy, however the titles Violence and Number 9 Bus Stop were allowed.
