Portwood of Music Television fame might face felony charges

Amber Portwood, from the MTV reality show "Teen Mother," could face felony assault allegations. She presumably, although since it was filmed it’s not really alleged at all, assaulted Gary Shirley, the dad of her daughter and her former fiance. Prosecutors started investigating after Portwood presumably attacked Shirley on the show.

Felony on the record for Amber Portwood with charges

The MTV reality show "16 and Pregnant" had Amber Portwood in it at first. Some of the subjects (each episode focuses on one pregnant teenager), including Portwood, were recruited for the spin off series “Teen Mom,” which details the trials and tribulations of being a young mom. The father of Portwood's child was Gary Shirley. In 2008, Leah Shirley was born to them. At the time, Portwood and Shirley were engaged. Allegations of assault happened just a few months ago, reports CNN. Evidently Shirley had been recorded being hit by Portwood numerous times. The T V show showed the footage as part of it. Then the police decided they needed to step in. Currently, the Madison County District Attorney’s Office has filed for probable cause. She might be charged with felonies if the filing goes through.

History of violence

At least three incidents of domestic violence happened against Shirley involving Portwood. Their daughter watcher her assault him, reports USA Today. This had been in August 2009. Two incidents of violence were recorded by MTV, taking place in June and July 2010. September got her into trouble when the footage finally aired. After the episode aired in Oct, Shirley and Portwood both had to give the police statements. If she is convicted, a $10,000 fine and three years in prison might be her punishment.

Child with father at present

There are two charges of felony counts as the child saw the incidents while the child is now with her father. Hopefully the child won't don’t forget anything that happened. She is young enough that this is likely the case.
